The inaugural Pedestrian Safety Message Contest, hosted by Safe Routes to School, has concluded with three deserving winners! Congratulations to Yunqing Zhang from Peavine Elementary School for clinching the Grand Prize, Jaelynn Vicente from Kendyl Depoali Middle School for securing Second Place, and Ricardo Marquez from Desert Heights Elementary School for earning Third Place. Each winner has been awarded an iPad and a brand-new bike courtesy of Safe Routes to School and Blue Zone Sports.
The primary aim of this project is to promote safe travel by foot or bicycle. Entries were required to feature concise text, easily visible and comprehensible to motorists traveling at 40 miles per hour, with the choice of medium left to each artist’s discretion. All submissions from elementary school students had to incorporate Washoe County School Police K-9 Astro in their safety message.
The winning artworks will be prominently displayed on RTC buses for an entire year, providing valuable visibility and recognition. Participation was open to students across elementary, middle, and high schools.
